| In 2002, I began designing and building new instruments. The instruments above were made from a single 25 foot long flower stalk of an agave plant (a large, spiky leaved succulent, found in many Mediterranean and desert climates) |

| first photo above, left to right: The AGAVADRUM- a drum which produces a nearly subsonic tone, two octaves below the head note. This one of a kind instrument , made from the base of the flower stalk, has a 14" head and is about 3 ft. long The SUBOCTAVE DIDJERIDU- this stick is called the Flame Snake - (also in the other photos on the right) over nine feet long -in the key of F- an octave lower than thetraditional instrument The AGAVATAR- my own invention- a four-stringed instrument which can be bowed or plucked,producing a haunting sound, rich in overtones This small FRAME DRUM was made from the very base of the flower stalk |
